Icebar London Visit: June 2016

Thestory

Born from its Swedish roots the Icebar London, tucked away in a cute courtyard situated on Heddon Street in Mayfair, is a unique exhilarating experience where guests take an expedition to see a piece of Sweden minus the expense and airfare.  200km above the Arctic Circle lies the frozen Torne River.  40 Tonnes of this Crystal clear Torne River Ice, which is harvested from the pristine winter wonderland of Jukkasjarvi in Northern Sweden, has been used to create this cool, chilled innovative Ice experience.

Get out the virtual guitars, as “Rock” is the awesome 2016 theme.  Literally everything is made of Ice, the bar, walls, tables, sculptures even the cool cube cocktail glasses!  The Ice bar may have the chill factor, but we certainly did not receive a frosty welcome from the team.  Ready to feel the freeze we need not have worried about wrapping up warm, Icebar have this covered! No brain freeze here, Sam provided us with cute thermal throws that kept us frost free.

Entrance

Never mind rock legends, Sam was Icebars very own London legend, loved him! Sam, made his introductions and warmed up the eagerly awaiting crowd.  Building up both a buzz and anticipation to the countdown moment when we would be invited to enter our very own winter wonderland.  Feeling excited and energised, the doors opened, the temperature plummeted minus, -1, -2, -3, -4 -5…”We will, we will rock you”…lets rock this!  Immediately, we spotted an impressive imposing Icey skull Sculpture, it was as clear as the Swedish Torne river that the Rock theme was going to be a hit!  Totally excellent etched engravings encapsulated the Icey rock theme perfectly.

Bar

Cool bar signage directs guests to the all-important bar area, but importantly references where the Icebar originates from proudly promoting that their Swedish roots are at the heart of Londons Icebar.  Strumming along on air towards the bar just hand me the microphone and let me order those cool creative cocktails.  “We Will Rock You” a mix of Absolut Vodka, Passoa, Passion Fruit Purée, Lychee Juice and Lemon Juice.  “Livin on a Prayor” a mix of Absolut Citron Vodka, Pink Grapefruit Liqueur, Cranberry Juice, Lemon Juice, and Orange Bitter. All hit the right notes, clearly they have aced it and they definitely got us embracing the Rock Theme. Singing the songs, admittedly out of tune, but thankfully no one give us the cold shoulder.

“Whoa, we’re half way there, whoa, livin on a prayer” rocking our way down the impressive ice studded bar that features literally 100s of intricate ice studs.  Now, stand back as its skull selfies time, as like the Ace of Spades I am “Pushing up the ante, I know you gotta see me”. Fantastic, fun and frolics were had in the skull, a no brainer really! Theming was a true authentic representation of rock and the rock legends both past and present.  We certainly felt like Rockstars!

FINAL FINAL WARM BAR

STOP, why end the evening there! Thaw out and Rock on into the warm bar to enjoy some of their signature cocktails and nibbles. Opting for a Purple Rain cocktail in tribute to the legend Prince. A mix of Absolut Kurant vodka, Triple sec liqueur, Crème de Mure liqueur, blackberry puree and lime juice. The Vanilla and apricot sour was a mix of Absolut Vanilia vodka, Crème de Apricot liqueur, lime juice, lemon juice, egg white, gomme syrup, angostura bitters. All soaked up with must needed yummy nibbles of gordal olives, spicy cashews and popcorn.

Thank you to Tom for the invite, Super Sam and all the team on the day! Finally, a mention must go out to the skilful building team behind London’s Ice bar; Mats Nilsson, Jon Nilsson, Mats Persson, Jens Thoms Ivarsson, Dave Ruane and Niklas Byman. You are all awesome!

The ethos at Icebar London is far from icy. They provide a fun, friendly, informal and chilled environment that brings everyone together. Group hugs for all!

Thanks for reading 🙂
