Pen and Pencil NQ Review: February 2017Extra, extra read all about it…as New York Meets the Northern quarter in Manchester City Centre. Situated on the corner of Hilton and Tarrif Street, this trendy New York style bar and eatery takes their name from the infamous mid-20th Century bar on East 45th Street in New York city which drew in newspaper journalists and the advertising business gurus- the original Madison Avenue ‘mad men’. Pen and Pencil have taken their inspiration from the ‘Mad Men’ creative revolution, as you can see from the restroom décor and combined with the new, as the place has a central perk style feel, with the Cosy seating, industrial features such as the cool light fixtures and of course what New York style eatery would be complete without a great big stonking ‘show off’ centrepiece coffee machine!
From brief observations, this place clearly ran like clockwork, the staff had the team work ethic and a bond that filtered through to the whole floor which gave the place a nice friendly relaxed vibe. Excellent Elle our Server was awesome and looked after all our needs. The Pen and Pencil grilled 8oz Beef Burger served in a Brioche bun with lettuce, tomato, balsamic onion, gherkin, chipotle mayonnaise and finished off with a generous helping of fries. Topped off with the additional cheese & Bacon made this burger even more lip-smacking! Halloumi salad with Mixed leaf, avocado, tomatoes, croutons and crushed cashews in a Cajun dressing was a fresh yummy healthy option. The triple chocolate nut brownie served with double cream was heavenly, but things just got sweeter…
Lush food was washed down with the brilliant Brooklyn Larger. A classic, firm favourite that never disappoints. Disco balls, pink platform heals and all things sparkly and sequins all synonymous with that stylish Studio 54 vibe. A theme that can be found with the Shades of Disco cocktail, a tall party pink fun cocktail which is a concoction of Tapatio Reposado Tequila, mango juice, lemon juice, blueberry jam, egg white, topped with Double Dutch pomegranate and basil soda. Picking up the pace, I speedily ordered a Penelope Pitstop, a smooth mix of Konik’s Tail Vodka, Cariel vanilla vodka, raspberry liqueur, cream and decorated with hundreds and thousands. This was my fav cocktail of the day and sent me racing ahead to the front of the ultimate cocktail finishing line. Chequered flags flying sadly meant things had to come to an end.
Forget the Pencil, as you will only need a Pen, as this is one dining date that you will not want to cancel!
Thank you for reading 😊

That burger is crazy big, how do you wrap your mouth around that? The fries look delish, one of my favorites!! Love the atmosphere and the desserts look enticing too! Best of all topping it off with a cocktail…love pink!! Looks like I’d feel right at home in the fine eatery. As always, an all encompassing review and adventure. xo
