Classic Wine Tasting Review – Veeno Manchester: February 2017
“Two Italians Abroad” aka Nino and Andrea came to the UK to work and study. Little did they know that this decision would take them on a journey of a lifetime. A game of football and a few Vino’s after the match united them and their passion for authentic high quality food and drink. A few glasses of Vino later, some careful planning along with a spritz of entrepreneurial spirit, saw the very first Veeno open in Manchester city centre in 2013!
Bringing a little taste of Italy to the UK by introducing the Aperitivo culture – a place where friends & family gather to socialise after work while enjoying drinks and nibbles in a relaxed setting. With Nino and Andrea’s combined expertise and business acumen Veeno continues to enjoy expansion throughout the UK – Watch this space the Italians might be coming to a town near you! Exciting stuff! Veeno Manchester clearly has a cosy cute café atmosphere, that has an instant relaxing effect. Glass tables with wine cork features really add to the Italian rustic charm of the place. Warmly welcomed by all the Veeno family team our Sicilian Italian Island adventure began with a glass of the fizzy stuff – Bellissimo!
Barista Seda provided us with a cute mini wine booklet and guided us through the Classic wine tasting experience which included tastings of two white wines, three red and a sweet wine. Impressively, all the wines come from Caruso & Minini a four-generation family vineyard and award-winning wine producers. All wines were paired up with an authentic ‘spuntini’ spread (Appetisers). Amazing Altamura bread with family produced oil, olives, bruschetta with olive pate, salame Milano, 18 month seasoned parma ham slices and parmigiano Reggiano – yummy!! Finally hands up for the mouth-watering homemade Italian tiramisu – a lovely, light tasty treat! Super Seda was wonderful and delivered knowledge in a learning style that was both exciting and engaging. Injecting her own personality into the presentation – in particular, I loved Seda’s unique take on the house white labelling this the ‘ladies larger’. Also, an excellent feature is that after each wine presentation, you are left alone to discuss, reflect and enjoy the offerings. A perfect time to bring out the mini wine booklet and test your knowledge! The tasting is informal, informative and importantly – fun and gives you a true authentic taste of the Italy.
After all the vino we may have been slightly swaying like the leaning tower of Pisa, but we were not given the Italian boot! Veeno is a home with a heart – one where everyone is made to feel welcome.
Grazie
