Bills at Home Review: April 2017
Bill Collison both driven and inspired by his Dads love for fresh home grown produce, started out in a small space that his dad showed him, which was no bigger than a shed, just off the high street in Lewes in East Sussex. Since he has never looked back, but it has not all been plain sailing. Rapid Success and growth meant the need to acquire new premises, but tragedy struck in 2000 with the heavy floods wiping Bill’s shop out. Starting from scratch Bill remained positive and not only has Bill Collison brought a boom to our high streets with the opening of many successful Bill’s restaurants, but now you can enjoy the Bill’s experience in the comfort of your own home.
Bill had things boxed off and provided me with a lovely decorative Bills box crammed with beautiful Bill’s products to get taste testing. The red velvet cupcake truffles are presented in the most amazing arty box. These lip-smackingly decadent and delicious truffles have a yummy white chocolate and vanilla icing centre, coated in smooth milk chocolate and are then dusted with freeze-dried raspberries.
The sharpness of Bill’s brilliant Cherry jam worked well on my homemade scones, as it balanced out the cream perfectly. The White Chocolate Eton mess bar tasted yummy as it was, but proved to be a big hit when used as a topping on my homemade biscuit bites. After baking up a storm in the kitchen and indulging in rich red velvet cupcake truffles, it was great to wash it all down with the amazing Adnams Bills IPA, my only problem was that one was not enough!
