Turtle Bay Blackburn New Menu Review: May 2017

Boom! Back again at Blackburn’s Turtle Bay for some cool Caribbean chilled vibes. News of the new menu has spread fast and this exciting foodie news really had my taste buds tingling. Shown to our seating, we were greeted by the lovely Jacob, one of the brands senior management figures, who spent some time speaking with us.  However, Jacob soon had to head off, as he clearly adopts a hands-on management style, as throughout the evening he got stuck in with the team, helping them with everything from serving meals, organising the pass and cleaning cutlery – Amazing!

Brilliant Becky our server did an amazing job looking after us for the whole evening and it was also lovely to see the host with the most – amazing jamming Jordan serving up some of our drinkies. Caribbean cocktails were plentiful and included the gorgeous Goombay Smash, created with Cockspur rum, Koko Kanu coconut rum, apricot liqueur, bitters, shaken with orange & pineapple tasted of summer and was a colourful as the sun. The fabulous ROOTs culture, served in a steel tin was shaken up with Uncle Wray overproof rum, strawberry liqueur, raspberry, lime & lemonade. The Tease me was mashed up with deliciously Dark rum, banana liqueur, Kahlua, coconut, fresh banana & cream. The red Raspberry Reggae was a refreshing concoction of Dark rum, raspberries, fresh lime & lemonade – refreshingly tastetastic!
Nearing National vegetarian week, which actually starts from today, inspired me to order all vegetarian #MealGoals. The Vital veggie platter Starter included, jerk pit grilled mushroom & peppers with coconut glaze, crispy okra, pepper roti, Sweet corn fritters, bara flat bread, spiced curried chickpeas & cucumber chutney, herb mayo & super green salad. All tasted sensational, spices well balanced and offered a lot of variety.

One up to the One Pots! A Caribbean tradition of yummy ingredients, slowly simmered for a rich deep flavoursome dish. The Ital Rundown, had a Coconut rundown sauce base with butter beans, carrots, corn cobblets, sweet potato, coconut, herbs & spices, served alongside coconut rice ‘n’ peas & roti flatbread. The super yummy Spinach, aubergine & sweet potato curry had a fragrant light curry sauce base with green beans, kidney beans & sugar snap peas cooked with Jamaican spice. Served up with steamed rice & roti flatbread – For me this was the savoury dish of the day, a clear winner! Our additions included the lush sweet plantain, sweet potato fries and cheesy jerk fries.

Perfect puddings had to include the delicious dark chocolate brownie pie served with tasty vanilla ice cream. Also, the Rum and Raisin bread pudding, which is slowly baked and infused with dark rum, raisins, cinnamon and brown sugar served alongside vanilla ice cream. A lip-smackingly heavenly dessert which for me was my sweet dish of the day. All washed down with the Brugal extra Viejo rum, with a lovely golden, caramel, honey, sweet spices & cocoa taste – sweet!

Rock the reggae, feel those beats, chill Caribbean style at Turtle Bay Blackburn… “Ooh Right, we’re jammin’, I want to jam with Turtle Bay Blackburn. We’re jammin’, we’re jammin’ and I hope you like jammin’ with Turtle Bay Blackburn too”. Eat, Drink and be happy 🙂
