Asha’s Manchester Lunch Review: May 2017
Located in the heart of Manchester city centre is the award winning amazing Asha’s Indian restaurant. Inspired by Bollywood legend Asha Bhosle, the restaurant group have an impressive resume and years of experience with WAFI City Dubai in 2002 being the location of their first opening. Asha Bhosle states that, “dining on delicious food in the company of good friends is the best recipe for happiness”. Now, it was our turn to test out Asha’s Philosophy.
Relaxed in exquisite and opulent surroundings our lovely Lunch, served by the amazing Matthew, started with a sensational speciality platter that was a mix of Gosht Seekh, Murg Malai (chicken) and Seafood Seekh Kebab. Also, the Vegetarian speciality platter, that included a super selection of the perfect cheese paneer ka soola, tandoori broccoli and my fav the Aloo Matar ki Tikki which was potato stuffed with green peas – palatal perfection and visually stunning.
Mouth-watering mains included the succulent Lamb Rogan josh, a dish made from an original recipe from Kashmir in Northern India, which is marinated in yoghurt with a spiced onion sauce. Also, the delicious Dakshin korma which consisted of scrummy sautéed vegetables spiced with turmeric, ginger in a delicate coconut gravy. Sides included the deliciously fresh baked naan breads, fluffy rice and a fresh colourful salad. The Poppadum’s and dips, that included mint & coriander, Tomato, Green apple with mint and finally a punchy pineapple dip, were superb.
Delicate, delightful desserts included the chilli chocolate tart and the New York style cheesecake. Both perfectly presented and tasted just as good. All were washed down with several cocktails, which included two favourites – the ‘peach bollini’ made with Bollinger Special Cuvée and a ‘so Dubai’ which is stirred up with Sipsmith Sipping vodka, saffron syrup & gold leaf. All fit well with the Dubai theme of gold, glamour and glitz. What better way to end a meal than with desserts and cocktails under the stars, well near enough, as these opulent light fittings were dazzling.
On our visit to Asha’s we felt blessed with Marigolds which are both a symbol of good fortune and happiness in India, as the place really welcomes guests to the heart of India and this immediately makes you feel at home. Matthew our server and Ravi were pleasant, friendly and informative. They took time out to explain dishes and had knowledge of India’s cultures and customs. The food was out of this world and a true representation of the authentic flavours of India. Asha’s provides a true authenticity with heart, that gave us a homely feel, which is at the epicentre of Indian life and culture.
