Oké Poké Manchester Northern Quarter Hawaiian Street Food Review: June 2017
Put the Hawaiian shirt and hula skirt away, as at Oké Poké Manchester you will already feel like you are in the heart of Maui, a Hawaiian Island Paradise, as Luau awaits – a traditional Hawaiian feast, which is delivered authentically, simply and of course with heart & soul.
Warmly welcomed by the lovely Ryan, we were instantly made to feel at home and got hydrated and refreshed with some lovely freshly squeezed orange juice and a sensational smoothie – the Hawaiian punch which was a concoction of coconut water, orange, lemon, mango and ginger. Then the business owner Sougand took time out to talk with us and explain all about the business – a lovely lady with true heart and passion to deliver authentic healthy Hawaiian food to the streets of Manchester.
Poké (poh-kay) is a traditional Hawaiian street food that is a healthy alternative to western fast food. The core business ethos is about Flexibility which offers customers a relaxed informal dining style, focus is on fresh, quality simple ingredients where the customer has a choice and can contribute to what they decided to eat. Whereby you can either eat off the innovative menu or make your own exciting creations. They also catered for vegetarians and had some gluten free options which is fabulous to see. Additionally, Oké Poké are passionate about reducing environmental waste and most of their packaging is made from biodegradable materials which gets a big thumbs up from me!
We opted for the Poké bowls, we chose one off menu and created one of our own and both were superb. The Teriyaki Jack was a mix of black rice, free range chicken, radish, red cabbage, celery, edamame, coriander, spring onion, pickled ginger with lashings of tasty teriyaki sauce. My own creation consisted of sushi rice, tofu, cucumber, avocado and a simple classic yes sensational soya sauce. Finishing off with a protein shake called the Funky Monkey which was a beautiful blend of banana, almond milk, raw cacao, spinach, flax seed and acai.
Oké Poké is all about the place, people and the produce, offering authentic fresh, quality Hawaiian cuisine, in a simple yet friendly setting. My verdict, I loved the place! Save your airfare and head on down to the Northern Quarter to give this place a go.
Thanks to the lovely Sougand, Ryan and all the Oké Poké team. Thank you for reading 🙂
