Gillray’s Steakhouse and Bar London #Review

Gillray’s Steakhouse and Bar London review: August 2017

Located within an enviable postcode on London’s Southbank, which offers iconic views of Big Ben, London eye and the Houses of Parliament, Gillrays Steakhouse and Bar, inside the London Marriot Hotel Countyhall, is a hotspot in the capital to indulge and enjoy some palatal pleasures. Impressively, Gillrays has been Acknowledged and awarded, receiving Two Rosettes by the UK’s Automotive Association (AA), an accolade awarded for culinary excellence. Also, commendations from bookatable.co.uk and they have featured on the Luxury Restaurant Guide.

Bold architectural details included the astounding arched gateway, the impressive topiary island, which added some much-needed greenery into London city and then we made our way through the traditional old worldly wood panelled lobby to the Gillrays entrance. James Gilray was a famed caricaturist of the late eighteenth century, labelled the father of political cartoon, his English humour style and personality are synonymous with the restaurants quaint essentially English theme with many of his prints adorning the venues walls.

The elegant and exquisite bar area and restaurant, featured plush interiors tastefully colour coordinated in navy and a yellow mustard shade. Warmly welcomed by the team and shown to our seat, we opted to dine from the Gillrays mouth-watering market menu which included their signature prosecco and gin based cocktail which was lip-smackingly sensational.

To start, we received a delivery of Yorkshire puddings and horseradish sauce, in my opinion, a move to mark the fact that the theme is very much traditional British fare, but with a contemporary twist. The 2 Beet Gazpacho with Apple and ‘Rosary’ Goats Cheese Salad was a quirky rainbow on a plate which worked well, but they had clearly been too generous with the liquid, but rather too much than not enough, I say!

Mains included the yummy 400g Pork T Bone served with smoked potato mash, sweet caramelised Pear and tasty Tiptree BBQ Sauce. The brilliant Bubble and Squeak, with tomato, poached duck egg and hollandaise was lovely.

To finish our fabulous feast, there was two deliciously divine desserts, which were the favourite part of the meal. The sensational Strawberries and Cream with decadent Champagne Sorbet and the Coffee & Biscuit bonanza with sweet chocolate and Blackberries were an instant hit with myself and my guest. Our server Sanda was also sweet looking after us throughout.

In London for work, rest or play, why not pop along to Gillrays Steakhouse and Bar, to indulge your food and drink cravings, along with super service, in a superb setting amongst our capital city’s major landmarks.

Thank you for reading 😊

  1. I love a good steak and your looks delicious! I love the plating of the dishes, very creative! The gazpacho definitely wins at the presentation!

  2. Everything looks so pretty, almost too pretty to eat but I’m sure I could give it a try. I love steak but I find it frustrating that mine never comes out cooked right (think I’m going to the wrong places)
