Cafe Football National Football Museum Review: August 2017

Cafe Football is located on the ground floor of the National Football museum, in one of Manchester’s iconic and striking buildings, the Urbis designed by Ian Simpson Architects. With an impressive sloping glass design, the building located in the picturesque cathedral gardens, is becoming a real Manchester landmark.

Inspired by their worldwide travel, during their extensive and successful football careers, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville launched the football themed GG hospitality company which encompasses the Cafe Football Brand. The duo gained a wealth of experience staying in various hotels and dining at restaurants throughout the world. It is with this knowledge and understanding, that the ambitious and passionate team, want to perfect their innovative brand delivering both quality and unique hospitality experiences to ensure a winning formula every time. Adopting the core ethos, ‘eat like a pro’.

The cool Cafe Football décor is contemporary and fun, with a splash of vibrant colour, super slick seating such as padded diner bar stools, simple yet subtle themed wooden stools and brilliant booths if you fancy gathering up the whole team of friends and family for a casual relaxed dining experience. As you may have already guessed, state of the art flat screen televisions are on the wall airing the fans fav football matches, which adds to the atmosphere and excitement, that you feel in the club terraces. Another mood motivator was the football memorabilia on display including signed shirts and photos of the players. Cafe Football have not let the theme go to their heads though, keeping the theming subtle throughout including the café football motif plates, napkins and menus printed with ‘respect all, fear none’.

Kick off began with a warm welcome from Olivia and our super server Marcus, who gave us a good team talk and coached us through the menu. Excited to begin, we warmed up with awesome Nachos, loaded with Chilli beef, chorizo, jalapeño, roquitos, guacamole and lashings of jalapeño cheese. For the main play, we chose the brilliant bunless ‘66 burger’ combined Beef burger stuffed with stilton wrapped in streaky bacon, mushrooms, peppercorn sauce, topped off with a watercress and rocket salad. Also, the tasty char-grilled halloumi & vegetable kebab served up with red onion, pickled cabbage, tomato salsa, guacamole and hot mouth-watering Memphis sauce was lip-smackingly tasty.

The diverse menu offered a range of refreshments including the ‘Silky Skills’, mixed up with Pimm’s No.1, St Germaine elderflower, lime juice, Prosecco, raspberries and cucumber. The ‘Keane as a bean’ shaken up with Guinness, Jameson’s, vanilla syrup, espresso was a real result! The Cafe Football craft beer at 4.2%, brewed in Salford by the guys over at seven brothers’ brewery, was a definite crowd pleaser. The Turf dessert, combining chocolate, pistachio, caramel and praline cake, scored an instant goal with me – back of the net…goooooal!!

Lovely Liam, the supervisor, called some extra time and things got sweet with the amazing Alice over at Cafe Footballs very own sweet shop! Taking me back to my youth, with a good old fashioned paper sweet bag, with jars filled up with sweet classics and a flavoursome ice cream counter. It is this kind of attention to detail which made the experience immersive and entertaining. Time was called and the final whistle blown, the employees are real team players so no red cards from me, Cafe Football has been a top goal scorer and they are the real dream team.
