Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel Afternoon Tea Review: November 2017
Proud members of ‘Small Luxury Hotels’, ‘Pride of Britain Hotels’, achievers of 3 AA Rosettes in 2018 under the helm of head chef Jake Jones, the Holbeck Ghyll, nestled high up hillside, is situated in an enviable location between Bowness on Windermere and Ambleside. The Holbeck Ghyll has been graced with the presence of many celebs such as Rennie Zellweger Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon to mention a few.
The inviting oak panelled arts and crafts entrance sets the scene with stunning stained-glass windows, an inglenook roaring log fire. An ideal place to cosy up prior to partaking in your Afternoon Tea Offerings.
In 1888 the ‘yellow earl’ and first president of the automobile association Lord Lonsdale acquired the property to use as his private hunting lodge. Now, the Holbeck Ghyll offers guests accommodations, dinner, lunch and of course Afternoon Tea!
The Lonsdale Lounge, an intimate setting, with its open fires and picture-perfect views overlooking Lake Windermere, is the location for this charming Afternoon Tea pastime.
Anna the 7th Duchess of Bedford introduced the fashionable trend of partaking in Afternoon Tea. Jolly good call in my opinion! Holbeck Ghyll’s famously indulgent Afternoon Tea available for both residents and non-residents began with of course only the finest Taylor’s of Harrogate teas, a range of fabulous finger sandwiches such as club, salmon & cream cheese, duck egg and avocado, a mushroom tart and a glass of the fizzy stuff.
We relaxed, chatted and simply watched the world go by, as a mix of melodies played at the ideal volume in the background. Staff were also attentive but not intrusive. Sweet service commenced with the arrival of the creative cakes and scones.
The sensational scones with jam and clotted cream were delicious. Lovely lemon poppy seed cakes, yummy chocolate orange fancies, the most terrific tasty trifles and cute carrot cakes in the most adorable pottery planters, like something straight out of a Beatrix Potter Book.
An elegant, exquisite and indulgent Afternoon Tea experience in the heart of the Lakes. An ideal experience perfect for a get together with friends, family or for celebrations.
Thank you for reading 😊
