City Centre Cruises Manchester Sunday Lunch Cruise Review: July 2018
For over 30 years, Manchester City Centre Cruises, have been operating passenger boat cruises in their two luxury barge boats. The Castlefield cruise location, was ready and waiting, for our turn to set sail with Captain Alan and his skippers Sarah, Ellie and Ted.
Participation in the cruise was to celebrate positive steps toward female emancipation, pay homage to Emmeline Pankhurst and the Suffragettes, as in February 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the Representation of the People Act 1918, which allowed some women over the age of 30 to vote for the first time, with December marking 100 years since the first general election in which women voted in the UK.
Our super sensational Sunday lunch began with fresh Soup, a crispy bread roll, all washed down with a range of light liquid refreshments.
Mouth-watering Mains included roast beef, roasty potatoes, boiled potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, broccoli, carrots and lashings of gravy. With advance notice being provided, an extra bonus was that chef Lorna catered for Vegetarians, with a yummy cheese and bean melt which tasted delicious.
The dessert was a completely tasty triumph, a rhubarb crumble with custard, which I could have easily ate more than one serving. All washed down with a choice of tea and coffee.
The barge boat experience is sensational with informative and comical commentary from captain Alan partnered with a pleasant poem. You also get to see a whole range of sights, including Manchester’s beautiful bridges, on the Bridgewater canal system.
Graffiti which can be both controversial and subjective, but get down with Bart Simpson and on lock down with the Panama dock number 3 which is the only lock left in water.Notice the interesting contrast between Manchester’s industrial past with the old soap works factory with the modern Media city including the likes of the BBC and ITV. Along with Manchester heartfelt iconic symbolic bee symbol, which is about the people of Manchester’s courage and strength to fight future conflict together.
Synonymous, with when the suffragettes used their united courage and strength, to gain women of today the freedom and right to vote and have our say in society.
Why not book onboard for a Sunday celebration Lunch, celebrating women’s life and liberty, and raise a glass or two in respect and tribute to the suffragette’s bravery and sacrifice.
Thank you for reading 😊
