York Chocolate Story – Review: January 2019
York Chocolate story, located on King’s square, right in the heart of York city centre is a chocolate lovers heaven. Prepare to unwrap your very own piece of chocolate history.
Warmly welcomed into the attraction by the joyful Josh, a cheerful chap who made a great impression and immediately made us feel at home. The souvenir guide book not only looks appealing, but is a fact filled read, ideal for the journey home and remembering those chocolatey momentous moments.
Be ready to take on the chocolate challenge and embark on a journey that will take you back thousands of years from chocolate to cocoa bean, exploring the rain forests of central America, where ancient tribes discovered the mysteries and power behind the cocoa bean’s humble exterior.
Enjoy a chocolate or two, as you stroll down memory lane, learn about York’s chocolate heritage and the people behind brands such as Terry’s, Rowntree’s and Craven’s, but keep the choccy rustling wrappers on the hush.
From the Ancient tribes of America to York’s historic chocolate past, now it’s time for you to step it up a notch and step inside a virtual chocolate world at the factory zone. Your all singing super star guide will show you how it’s done with a little help from yourselves of course.
Learn how to taste chocolate professionally and the science as to why chocolate gives us the feel-good factor. Sufficiently skilled with the know how knowledge get ready to make your very own chocolate lolly, with various toppings such as salted caramel balls, this is stuff of sweet dreams.
For the finale watch the experts at work in their custom made bespoke chocolate demonstration kitchen and yes you do get to taste a scrummy yummy chocolate truffle or two.
A super sweet, fun and fabulous attraction. Immersive, interesting and informative. An experience that any chocoholic would love. Now, don’t end your journey early, as the onsite chocolate café serve up the most amazing chocolate afternoon tea.
Kieran, a fantastic fella, served up our afternoon tea with smiles and could not do enough for us. Scrummy scones, jam, strawberry’s and cream, sweet caramel slices, chocolate slabs, mouth-watering macaroons, chocolate dip with mini marshmallows and the most dainty and delightful, expertly made in house, chocolates. All washed down with tea, hot chocolate and some of the fizzy stuff.
Make sure you don’t miss out on your chocolate fix the next time you’re in York and make York’s chocolate Story your must see attraction.
Thank you for reading 😊

This would be a must-visit place for me in York, for sure, Makes me think of a chocolaterie (Choco-Musee) on rue St-Jean, just outside the walls of Old Quebec – I used to live half a block from there, and boy was it rough walking past every day on my way to/from work!

I have been to York a few times and just haven’t made it to the Chocolate Museum yet. It looks like a really great place to explore, learn and obviously taste chocolates. I have been to the chocolate museum in Brussels and thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the history so think it would be even better learning about it from a more local aspect.
That afternoon tea looks delicious too! What a great way to end a trip to a museum. Well deserved after the hard work of enjoying chocolate, right?

Chocolate is my guilty pleasure, but this year I am on purpose choosing dark chocolate because I read its healthier. (Though not quite as tasty as the others) in my opinion. This looks like a great place to visit.
