24 Hours in Liverpool on a budget with Novotel Liverpool Centre – Review: June 2019
Fancy a fabulous city break in Liverpool, that won’t break the bank, well the stylish Novotel Liverpool Centre may be 4 stars, but provides cosy accommodations with a reasonable price tag.
The great thing about this hotel is that they have a range of rooms to suit different budgets from standard to executive. So maybe with my money saving guide across the city, you will be able to treat yourself and upgrade.
Day 1
Our executive room offered a super snug bed with a brilliant functional desk / Vanity space.
Also, a cosy seating area with an amazing view of Liverpool cathedral.
The Bathroom compact, clean and provided complimentary bathroom products such as Fairtrade Shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion and soap. Also, essentials such as a comb, dental set, shaving set, shower cap, vanity set, shoeshine sponge and a sewing kit which cuts down on the baggage, and the need to pack extras.
Destination Liverpool, on Hanover Street, the 4-star Novotel Liverpool Centre is in a convenient and centralised position for you to take advantage of all that Liverpool City centre has to offer, as there are so many things to do and see in Liverpool.
The Royal Albert Dock is an iconic area with bags of character, history and it’s free to walk around. Also, why not check out the Tate Liverpool, that houses British and International modern contemporary art, and it’s free entry to the main hub.
The Merseyside Maritime museum takes you back in time to learn all about the social and commercial history of the port of Liverpool. Currently, they have a Titanic and Liverpool: the untold Story, International Slavery Museum and Seized! The Border and Customs uncovered exhibit.
Built on Liverpool’s wonderful Waterfront, The Museum of Liverpool provides free entry for visitors to explore how both port and its people have created and shaped the city, as we see it today.
With the Lion Locomotive, Liver Trail and the Empire State building model which influenced the development of the actual American skyscraper, The Empire State Building, you will not be disappointed.
Titanic Monument, Beatles Statue and The Liver Building
Take a whistle stop photo opportunity of three iconic Liverpool landmarks, all in one triangle location, and it won’t cost you a penny.
Including the Titanic Memorial, the fantastic fab four statue where you can pose with the Beatles and in the background the lovely Liver building.
Location Matthew Street and a trip to Liverpool would not be complete without paying a visit to the Cavern Club, some days and times have free entry so check out their website for more information, where the Beatles once performed, and the beating heart and hub of Liverpool’s music scene.
Also, there is masses of Liverpool Legends memorabilia to keep any Beatles fans and lovers of Liverpool entertained.
Cavern Club Front stage has a variety of truly talented live musical performances with musical “words of wisdom” so “Let it be, Let it be, let it be”
Indulge in some ‘You Time’
After all that exploring, it’s time to sit back, relax and chill. Whether you are with the family, on a couples break away or hanging out with friends, head back to your executive room and enjoy some of the complimentary amenities.
Including, a fully stocked tea tray with Belgian biscuits, a Nespresso coffee machine and complimentary bottled water, already chilled and waiting, in the mini fridge. This certainly saves on paying for coffees while out and about!
Now it’s time to indulge in a little you time, so head down to the Novotel Liverpool Centres onsite leisure area, take a dip in their gorgeous heated swimming pool and enjoy the steam room. After your dip, grab a book, rest on a recliner and chill poolside.
Novotel Liverpool Centres, Ropewalks Bar and Kitchen has been subtlety themed with Liverpool in mind.
Décor includes shipping and sailing themed items such as candle lighting and ropes along with a few sprinkles of the fab four – The Beatles.
An ideal informal and relaxed place to enjoy a drink or two, play some pool, watch the sports and some of their delicious dinner cuisine.
Dinner began with gorgeous goat’s cheese Potato skins and some vegetarian tasty tacos, both dishes were delish and all washed down with Liverpool’s signature Love Lane and a Virgin Mojito.
Mains included the brilliant Beer Battered Haddock with hand cooked chips, peas and tartar sauce. Also, a fresh and crisp Caesar salad with a side of French fries. Enjoyed with a pint of Goose Island and a punchy passion fruit mocktail.
Delightful desserts such as the fabulous fresh and fruity fruit salad and the chocolate fondant are a must to end your meal on a sweet note.
Day 2
Wake up, warm up and work out, in the onsite fantastic fitness suite offering guests a range of weights and training equipment.
A beautiful breakfast bonanza awaits you in the morning, as you can enjoy your breakfast in the relaxed Ropewalks.
The buffet style eatery provides both hot and cold options including continental meats, cheese, along with yogurt, fresh fruit, pastries, cereals and breads.
Hot options included sausage, bacon, hash browns, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, eggs and vegetarian sausages.
This was the perfect breakfast to start the morning off ready for another day exploring exciting Liverpool.
Offering free entry, The World Museum has a whole range of exciting exhibits all housed under one roof. Currently there are various things to see including a planetarium, space and time, aquarium, natural world and dinosaurs – extinct of course and much more.
My personal favourite was Ancient Egypt, the museum houses the UK’s largest Ancient Egyptian gallery outside of the British Museum – an impressive display for sure!
Ground floor entry at Liverpool Cathedral is free, this beautiful building designed by the amazing architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott who interestingly was also commissioned to design a telephone kiosk to commemorate the Jubilee of King George V – hence the red iconic telephone box was born.
Well worth paying the small fee for the tower to see the beautiful bells and gain entry to the Cathedral roof top where you have a great vantage point, that offers the most beautiful breath-taking 360-degree views of the whole city.
Pay a small fee to soar new heights and go all the way up St Johns Beacon, home of radio city, and enjoy full panoramic views of the Liverpool skyline, the Liverpool Waterfront, the Wirral and North Wales.
Even on the walk to the train station, you find free and fabulous sights including this statue tribute to John and Cecil Moores and this Umbrella fabulousness, a metaphor that this city will keep you dry, as even if it does rain, the people, sights and atmosphere will keep this from being a damp city break.
Stay snug and super in the Novotel Liverpool Centre and enjoy Liverpool’s cultural scene, take advantage of the free entry at many of the marvellous museum’s or perhaps jump on a ferry across the Mersey.
‘Liverpool we love you, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeahhhh’.
Thank you for reading 😊
Melanie xx
