York Theatre Royal, Sleeping Beauty Pantomime #Review

York Theatre Royal, Sleeping Beauty Pantomime – Review: January 2020

York Theatre Royal, a social hub and beating heart of York’s cultural scene has been providing quality arts and entertainment for 275 years.  Now it is your turn to enjoy some of this fabulous friendly fun and folly with a trip to see the Sleeping Beauty Pantomime showing until the 25th of January 2020.

Additional amazingness on our visit included being able to see panto costumes, dotted around the theatre, from past performances.

The theatre renovations tastefully and sympathetically combine the traditional and contemporary which sets the tone for your visit.  Grab your panto souvenir brochure and prepare to be spellbound.

The award-winning Sleeping Beauty Panto at York Theatre Royal is a family crowd pleaser.

A classic case of good versus evil with many ‘Oh no you didn’t’ moments for the crowd to have their very own starring role which is an immersive and entertaining experience.

The Panto stars, Martin Barrass as the Queen, Suzy Cooper as Beauty, A.J Powell as Darth Diva and David Leonard as the wicked Evil Diva along with much more talent besides.

This years panto was just as good as ever with giggles galore, tops tunes, diva dancing, splendid costumes and of lots of laugh out loud moments.

Cheer for the good such as King Jack Lansbury, the fabulous Funky the Flunkie played by Howie Michaels.  Boo the villain, the devilish David Leonard who is always a personal favourite of mine and a sheer delight to watch.

And no York Panto would be the same without the classic sing a long song…this year themed around a Carrot!

Before or after your matinee performance why not pop by the York Theatre Royal’s onsite café for a brilliant bite to eat and drink.

One thing is for sure with this superb mix of entertainment, food and drink, you won’t be falling asleep for 100 years anytime soon, as it is fabulous fun filled action all the way.

Thank you for reading 😊

  2. Panto seems to have seriously improved since my day! We have a toddler, so I’m sure we’ll be dragged along soon enough. Those outfits look fab though. And my husband would enjoy that food…xx

  3. I’m now drooling over that rocky road. The food looks great. I hate to admit but I’ve never seen a panto. I think it’s about time I lost my panto cherry based on the fun you had. Sounds a slick performance.

  6. My 13 year old niece is so into theater plays and pantomines. She will love to be able to watch a show like this. She is a lover of the arts! It is funny though that while most girls her age are swooning over boy bands and trying out new make up, my niece is more interested in Shakespeare, Michaelangelo, Van Gogh and World History.

  7. I remember going to Pantomimes as a kid. It was always such a fun experience. We went to see “the bank robbery” last year which brought back all those Panto feels.
