Guy Fawkes Inn York Review: January 2020
We all remember the 1605 attempt to blow up parliament and the ‘Remember, remember, the 5th of November, Gunpowder, Treason and Plot’.
Now it is your chance to relive history in the shoes of Guy Fawkes and enjoy a unique experience by staying in the alleged birthplace of the notorious Guido Fawkes conspiracy plotter aka Guy Fawkes.
Warmly welcomed and looked after throughout by the lovely team including Delightful Dan and super Stacey.
Our fabulous four poster room had bags of character including the most amazing four poster bed and 3 large windows with the most wonderful views of the majestic York Minster cathedral.
The Guy Fawkes medieval Inn is located within a prime spot adjacent to the York Mister Cathedral in York city centre and the views from our room – just breath-taking and the ideal photo opportunity.
Our room had all the modern conveniences including a flat screen television and tea tray with biscuits.
Also, a fully equipped en-suite bathroom with complimentary toiletries to use throughout our stay.
Even on the way down to dinner, going down the staircase, there is a feeling that you have stepped back in time – authentic and immersive.
The onsite restaurant, the same place where both breakfast and dinner are served, is again brimming with character.
Lit by candlelight, the places has an atmospheric charm with encapsulates the whole theme of the place.
Offering classic modern British food, their AA Rosette kitchen produces some fabulous fare.
Starters included this fresh and fabulous super salad and some mighty and meaty brilliant bon bons.
Mouthwatering mains included the chickpea curry with rice, onion bhaji, poppadom and mango chutney. Also, a brilliant burger with chips and all the trimmings.
Enjoy your desserts with a few fabulous drinks, as you soak up the amazing atmosphere.
Fancy a few drinks alfresco style, well the Guy Fawkes Inn has an amazing beer garden with some superb wall art.
Taking inspiration from the York Minster picture outside of our room, after dinner and drinks head, we headed out into night-time York and enjoyed the Minster at dark before heading back to our snug room.
At night, our fantastic four poster room seemed to have even more character and atmosphere, a real dip into history and a cosy room to enjoy a brew and biccy before bed.
After a restful night’s sleep, it was nice to see their morning twinkly lights and begin breakfast with their continental offerings including fresh fruit, pastries and cereals.
Hot options such as the full Yorkshire breakfast and vegetarian offering both beautiful and got us ready for a day exploring York.
The Guy Fawkes is in the ideal location to explore the York Minster Cathedral, as it is literally a hop, skip and a jump away.
Make sure you take the trip to the top of the York Minster.
Being based at the Guy Fawkes Inn, you can save your energies to climb the steps to the top – well worth it for the views of York.
Guy Fawkes Inn York a friendly fab bunch, wonderful characterful rooms and delightful food what’s not to like.
Thank you for reading 😊
