Marmadukes Townhouse Hotel and The Park Restaurant York – Review: February 2020 #Gifted

Looking for a chic, sophisticated and an elegant place to stay in York, the 4 start AA rated Marmadukes Townhouse Hotel is the perfect place to rest your head, enjoy a romantic break or time with family and friends

Situated within a central location minutes from York’s ancient Roman walls this Victorian hotel, that previously belonged to a Victorian gentleman, has all the charm and character one would expect.

The cosy countryside feel to the place provides a snug cosy hub and a hideaway to enjoy a peaceful and tranquil break away.

The breathtaking beautiful four poster room is rather regal, sophisticated and a perfect place to spend your time while in York.

The large room provides enough space to relax with writing/vanity desk and seating area with freestanding traditional full length mirror.

The wonderful welcome to York book, along with a range of other reading materials, provides a wealth of information including sightseeing and must do’s while visiting York.

The bathroom boasts a standalone bath with complimentary H2K toiletries to use throughout your stay.

The onsite Park restaurant has a lovely relaxed, warm feel to the place mirrored by the fabulous friendly team including Kat and Harriet who did a fabulous job of looking after us throughout the evening.

The restaurant décor has been perfectly put together setting the scene for a memorable evening.

Drinks included fine wines, premium beers, spirits and the lovely ladies even produced me an amazing mocktail off menu and it was sensational.

The Park provides guests the opportunity to indulge in a modern British seven course tasting menu by the amazing Adam Jackson.

Beginnings included the Squash, Mascarpone and Onion, a delightful textural dish with punchy flavour combinations.  Also, the homemade breads and flavoured butters including one infused with marmite are a sheer delight.

Next course was the Tomato, Beef and Egg, the Beef being replace with Fennel for vegetarians, a delicate, divine and pretty looking course which was fresh, fabulous and full of flavour.

Following this was the Cod, Grape, Almond and Lovage or the vegetarian offering of Hispi, and Celeriac.  Both dishes balanced delicate flavours creating a beautiful sensational savoury offering.

Gorgeous Guinea Fowl, Parsley Root and Hen of the Woods with the vegetarian offering of Hen of the Woods, Rissotto, Parsley and Parmesan.  Adam created two amazing dishes and makes vegetarian food taste incredible.

The Plum, Pistachio and Tonka Bean dessert…what can I say outstanding, the cream, crunch and cleverly culinary creation was cleared of the plate in record time.  In fact, this was my favourite dish of the evening.

As if we had not been spoilt enough, along comes a second delicious dessert of Blackberry, Marmalade, Burnt Whit Chocolate, heaven on a plate.

An even better finale to dinner was the perfect Petit Fours served with coffee or a pot of tea.

Adam Jackson, at the Park restaurant, clearly delivers on both style and substance.  Service is just a smooth, attentive and not intrusive, delivered by the lovely Kat and Harriet.  All in all, we had an excellent evening of fabulous food, drinks and knowledgeable chat with the team.

Finish your evening relaxing with an after dinner drink in their onsite lounge.  you may even see the resident teddy bear, a rather cute chap!

After a lovely night’s rest, it was nice to enjoy a beautiful breakfast – Yorkshire style.

The cooked to order breakfast offered lost of options including full Yorkshire breakfast, vegan, vegetarian and so much more.
