It has been a challenging 12 months to say the least, so while restrictions are slowly being eased why not take some timeout to plan your exciting UK Staycation right in the heart of Yorkshire.

Founded at the confluence of the rivers Foss and Ouse, with an eclectic mix of Georgian, Medieval and Victorian characteristics, the wonderful walled city of York, with winding quaint, narrow streets and snickleways, has been perfectly preserved making it a picturesque location which combines historical heritage with sophisticated, contemporary amenities.

Known as Eoforwick to the Saxons, Eboracum to the Romans and then invaded by the Vikings who coined the name Jorvik, York is a city steeped in history and charm, an architectural Aladdin’s cave of all things historic, but is an ever-evolving city which offers a range of exciting events, activities, museums and restaurants.

Now all you need is a super fabulous hotel, for your staycation, so you can take advantage of all that York has to offer.  In no particular order here are all my marvellous recommendations…

The Principal York

The Principal Hotel, located in an enviable postcode in the heart of York, with views of the Minster, is only a few small steps away from York Train station, so this is the perfect place to stay, play and enjoy your stay the Yorkshire way.

Steeped in history, old school charm and character this place will not disappoint.  The breath-taking building with grandeur and grace stands dominant and proud.  The gorgeous and glowing golden building emits the feeling of warmth and an even warmer welcome awaits from the Principal York team who go the extra mile so you can enjoy a first-class experience.

The restorations and refurbishments, carried out by award-winning interior architects Goddard Littlefair, have remained sympathetic to the original period features retaining the buildings elegance and natural charm.

As you can see by the Christmas tree and stunning decorations, the Principal York really do pull out all the stops, bells and whistles and all.

Enjoy some food in the yummy onsite restaurant, go for a dip in the pool, enjoy some you time in the jacuzzi or take a stroll around the gorgeous grounds which have that secret garden feel.  These vast sprawling gardens are an ideal hub in which to escape the hustle and bustle of York and have some rest and relaxation time.

Guy Fawkes Inn

We all remember the 1605 attempt to blow up parliament and the ‘Remember, remember, the 5^th of November, Gunpowder, Treason and Plot’.

Now it is your chance to relive history in the shoes of Guy Fawkes and enjoy a unique experience by staying in the alleged birthplace of the notorious Guido Fawkes conspiracy plotter aka Guy Fawkes.

The Guy Fawkes medieval Inn is located within a prime spot adjacent to the York Minster Cathedral in York city centre and with a bar and restaurant onsite you have all that you need.

Our fabulous four poster room had bags of character including the most amazing four poster bed and 3 large windows with the most wonderful views of the majestic York Minster cathedral – just breath-taking and the ideal photo opportunity.

Hotel Indigo York

Located on one of the oldest streets in York, the Hotel Indigo York, in the Walmgate neighbourhood is a beautiful boutique hotel hub which also has an onsite bar and restaurant too so you are all sorted.

Décor takes inspiration from York’s historic rich chocolatey past and heritage and this theme is clearly carried on once you step into your room, as the bedoom area was stunning with decor centralising around York’s history, the attention to detail and finishing touches made all the difference.

The most superior rooms are finished to a high specification with quality fixtures and fittings creating a lovely snug stay and made even better by the friendly and fabulous York Indigo team.

Get bubbly in your superior room deep sunken standalone bath with plush complimentary toiletries and there is even a wonderful walk in double person shower with side spray jets and rainfall showers, so you feel fresh , fabulous and ready for another day enjoying your York adventures.

The Judges Lodging’s

Think relaxed luxury, charm and elegance, the Judge’s Lodging located in the heart of York city centre are perfectly situated in the main hub for easy access to all the city’s main attractions.

A gorgeous Grade I listed building, a Georgian townhouse steeped in charm and history, whereby the building’s origins date back to 1710 when it was built as a private residence.

Eventually, after the passing of the owner, the building became the residence of judges attending the Assize court sessions and remained so until around 1976.

Our refurbished room was a snug hub with bath tub was made even better with a Minister View and then a visit to their onsite private dining alpine lodge wooden cabins – a must do experience for sure!

Marmadukes Townhouse Hotel

Looking for a chic, sophisticated and an elegant place to stay in York, the 4 star AA rated Marmadukes Townhouse Hotel is the perfect place to rest your head, enjoy a romantic break or time with family and friends.

Situated minutes from York’s ancient Roman walls this Victorian hotel, that previously belonged to a Victorian gentleman, has all the charm and character one would expect.

The cosy countryside feel to the place provides a snug cosy hub and a hideaway to enjoy a peaceful and tranquil break away.  There is even the onsite resident cuddly resident Mr Bear to make you feel right at home.

Providing a range of guest accommodations, opting for a breath-taking beautiful four poster room is a rather regal, sophisticated and a perfect place to spend your time while in York.  Sit down and get scribbling at the writing desk to update your journal notes about your York adventures.

Novotel York Centre 

Novotel York Centre, situated close to the historic city walls and overlooking the beautiful banks of the River Foss, is a fabulous four-star hotel.  Recently, the hotel has carried out extensive quality refurbishment to the property providing guests with an even more fabulous experience.

Take a dip in the pool, then why not enjoy dinner at the Gourmet Bar and retire to the lounge to simply sit back and chill out.  Decor a mixture on industrial and retro chic, the perfect place to play, picture or people watch.

The newly renovated Junior Suite really is something else, a spacious open plan contemporary family hub to kick back and relax in as you plan all your amazing York adventures.

The bathroom is super large includes double sinks, vanity mirrors, deep sunken bath, separate stand up shower unit and complimentary toiletries.

 Lamb & Lion Inn

The lovely Lamb & Lion Inn, just around the corner from York’s art gallery and York Theatre Royal literally is an Historic homely hub providing a home away from home experience.  The team always provide a warm welcome, so much so you feel that you have just stepped into a friends home.

The four-star Inn, adjoining Bootham Bar at one of the four key Roman Gateways to York’s Walls is steeped in historic charm and character, ideal place to stay of you want to be in the heart of the historic action.

Get cosy beside the coal fire, as night falls and enjoy their super scrummy pub grub such as the classic fish and chips and a pint of ale.

Our rather regal and relaxed room elegantly presented in muted shades looked amazing and was in touching distance of the York city historic walls. a unique and exciting experience.

Moxy York

Think perky personality with a hint of pink, Moxy York located within the city centre is the perfect place for a stay in York any time of the year.

Moxy sleeper rooms have all you need, but Moxy is all about the main hub downstairs which consists of a huge bar, lobby and lounge area with Plug and Meet gathering areas, huge 56-inch televisions, the ideal place to relax, work or play.

We previously stayed over New Years and the place felt festive and fabulous, as they go all out on the decks with the stunning Christmas tree and the super cool swinging chill chair, we were so glad to spend New Years Eve with such a fabulous and friendly bunch or guys and gals.

Décor is cool and quirky with guitars on the wall and Beatles books which I loved! Moxy have embraced York and the York themed details throughout the hotel is brilliant including the gym lockers and Viking wall art. “Imagination is the highest kite you can fly” the last artwork seen before leaving and I agree this place is a fun vibrant hub and a perfect place to stay.

The Grange Hotel 

The Grange Hotel York, a classic Regency townhouse with a luxury boutique feel, formally known as Bootham Grange was built and occupied by the wealthy Richardsons in 1829.  In 1989 Jeremy and Viven Caseel converted the building, into the luxury four-star hotel, opening to the public in 1990.

The opulent reception consists of a plush period sitting area along with a spiral style staircase.  The grandeur continues into the marvellous Morning regency room, with typical English décor, for a traditional afternoon tea.

A breathtakingly stunning room ideal for relaxing, recharging and refreshing after another day of exciting York adventures.

After dinner pull up a chair by the real roaring fireplace, get cosy and settle in for the evening before retiring back to your onsite accommodations.
