Great John Street Hotel Visit: June 2016
The Great John Street Hotel enjoys a prime location in the heart of Manchester city centre. Prior to renovations the hotel was a Victorian school house, but cleverly the Eclectic hotel brand have managed to transform the school into a luxury townhouse hotel balancing a mix of eclectic charm while remaining sympathetic to the historic appeal and prominence of the old school house.
Anna the 7th Duchess of Bedford introduced the fashionable trend of partaking in Afternoon Tea. Jolly good call in my opinion! As was indulging in the Ladies afternoon tea in the plush, opulent and luxurious surroundings of the Oyster Bar designed by Sally O’Loughlin. Also, a cocktail on the exquisite rooftop lounge seemed the obvious way to playout in this charming venue.
Afternoon tea was served with as much tea and coffee as we required, but we added a glass of the fizzy stuff – Perrier Jouet champagne, as for me champagne is an obligatory part of the afternoon tea experience. The ladies tea included some fabulous finger sandwiches filled with smoked salmon and guacamole, egg and mustard cress, roast beef and watercress, ham and homemade piccalilli and cucumber dill cream cheese. Scones served with scrumptious clotted cream and fresh strawberry jam were divine, delicious and devoured in record time.
