Black Dog Ballroom Northern Quarter Manchester Visit: August 2016
Walking through the Northern Quarters charming and characterful streets, right there at the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter amongst a creative eclectic mix of independently owned shops, bars and restaurants, we spot the original Black Dog Ball Room. The “Black dog” theme is constant but not overkill appearing on the building’s exterior, cool trendy neon door and on the creative artwork header plaque as you step down into the New York style speakeasy Bar and restaurant.
Awesome artwork, low level lighting and funky diner style seating immediately give diners a relaxed, chilled and casual space to enjoy some real American diner delights. My partner and I embraced the atmosphere, got cosy and opted for an amazing lip smacking WoW…the Wings n Things sharing tray. We got stuck into their classic crunchy nachos, 4 wings in a delicious BBQ sauce, 2 mouth-watering mini cheese burgers, yummy onion rings and mixed fries that included both plain and scrumptious sweet potato. All washed down with a brilliant Brooklyn Beer. Definitely a tasty tray for two that thankfully was provided with hand wipes, as things did get a little sticky!
Mains consisted of all things “Diner” wings, nachos, hotdogs, fries, burgers, salads and pizza. Don’t “Drop it like its hot” and bring on the “Beautiful” Snoop Dogg pork dog served with mac & Cheese, beef patty served on a cool Black Dog themed “Rapper” with an additional add on of house fries. The Super Food Salad exceeded my expectations providing quality and a variety of scrummy salad servings consisting of Mixed leaf salad, broad beans, cherry vine tomatoes, broccoli, avocado, toasted pumpkin seeds & courgette ribbons drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. Served with an additional add on of halloumi. Other additions include Peri Peri chicken, grilled steak or salmon.
Delicious desserts and cocktails were to finalise our New York inspired diner journey. The peanut butter dessert was luscious and the evening only got better, as we sampled some cool creative cocktails. Opting for an old school mash up their Amaretto sour, mixed with Luxardo amaretto that is made even smoother to sip when you add lemon juice, sugar and egg white. These guys shake their cocktails hard and served up this mix with an amaretti biscuit. Bring on the good times and let’s get the tropical party started with a perfect Pina Colada mixing Malibu, Bacardi Carta Blanca, pineapple juice, milk & cream and usually served with an umbrella. Unfortunately they had run out of umbrellas, but no worries with the weather in Manchester being a temperamental rain basin, I already had mine with me and there was enough tropical party vibes being created by the awesome staff the umbrella was not missed!
Chilled out, casual and fun atmosphere, a New York inspired food menu, combined with American beers, cocktails and all mixed up with friendly, fun and fantastic staff. What more could you want, no need to bark, head on down to Black Dog Ballroom Northern Quarter and you will be leaving with happy wagging doggy tails for sure!
Thanks for reading 🙂
